Your doctor might recommend that you complete sleep testing if there is some suspicion that you are suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. We offer both at-home and in-lab testing and the determination of which testing is appropriate for you includes factors such as referring physician details, your personal health history, insurance coverage and other factors.
Patients being assessed for sleep apnea can usually sleep very well with the at-home sleep test, although the monitoring equipment may feel uncomfortable or strange at first. Your sleep specialist will give you specific instructions about how to set up the equipment at home and other information.
Your doctor might request that you refrain from napping on the day of the study. You will also be told to avoid caffeine after noon and avoid smoking at all. Patients are also recommended to take their medications and function as they would normally.
Home sleep testing is basically a modified, portable version of the test conducted in a sleep lab. The test is fairly straightforward. The patient wears a belt around the midsection, attaches a clip to the finger and places the airflow sensor beneath the nose. This device will measure a variety of activities during your sleep. Our trained sleep specialists will analyze the testing data and recommend a treatment plan.
In-lab sleep testing is a more comprehensive approach to diagnosing sleep disorders and other breathing related difficulties. In-lab sleep testing is available for both initial diagnosis and CPAP titration. Our experienced sleep lab technicians will work with you to ensure you are comfortable during these overnight tests. Our sleep lab is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Sleep testing is very reasonably priced, especially when compared with sleep studies performed in a facility. Costs vary among insurance plans and we will discuss with you the information we have obtained from your specific insurance plan at your in office appointment.
